I have another Olympic topic to write about it. I will keep names out, but the media has focused on this matter that you will know exactly what I am talking about.
The American Olympic team had a chance to win the men’s relay. They had practiced and trained. They had put forth the best Team for the U.S. But then one of the members, without telling the team captain, decided to focus on his individual medal races instead of the relay race.
I admit I think the media made to big of a deal about it, but in a way they were right. THere is no "I" in team. In my opinion the Olympics is about representing your team. Although individuals race to gain a medal, they do so under their nations flag. The nation and team must come first.
Although this person did win individual medals in the Olympics he did so by letting down his team. I guess this has become the American way unfortunately. But I think it is time we learn from this lesson that the Team is more important than the individual. Being one and in unity as part of team is where true victory lies.
So even though this individual won medals under the U.S. banner, he did so not reflecting a team concept. He truly won them for himself, not the U.S.A. As for the behavior of the team captain that was rightfully upset, I give him credit for eventually extending the right hand of fellowship on the platform.
I beleive we can learn a lot from this Olympic situation. ALthough the drama of the media was high. We had one who stood for the Team and one who stood for the "I". In my eyes the team player is the ultimate champion no matter how many medals the other person might have won!
Go U.S.A.
