Is life important to you? Do you enjoy the breath of life GOd gave you? Do you believe that the innocent should be protected? Do you care what God has to say? Do you think we should take a stand for life? Questions like these often enter my mind…after all I am in the life business…enternal life that is.

If you are not aware this year marks the 33rd year of Roe vs. Wade. It is estimated that over 47 million babies have been aborted. Currently, it appears that our nation is divided on this topic. However, South Dakota has taken a very courageous stand on this matter. The SD House and Senate passed a bill making it illegal for someone to get an abortion other than life or death scenarios. In fact it is on the Governor’s desk and he is expected to sign it.

I am not sure what will happen as a result. I will imagine this will get lost for a while in the legal suffle and ultimately end up at the Supreme Court. What will happen then? I don’t know! I hope that life will be honored!

I do have some concerns with the bill because it has no exceptions. It will attempt to end abortion on demand…which is good. But it does not address compassionately difficult situations like rape or incest. I agree the baby still has the right to life, but legal issues must be addressed about protecting the child. DOes the rapist and incestist (if that is a word) have the right to parent the child…I think not!

This legislation is bold. But it might be missing some important exceptions. It appears to cover medical life and death issues. But it leaves out some other ethical issues that must be addressed.

In the end we have to stop this holocaust. It may be law today, but it is an ungodly law! Somehow we Christians must find a way to communciate through love that life is sacred and precious. I fear this bill will not do that.

I look for a day when we can truly love life for what it really is - a gift for God; and only He can give it and take it!
